Holiday Gingerbread

We are starting our Christmas baking!  We have never made gingerbread.  I found this recipe on Allrecipes.  We were out of ground cloves that the recipe called for, we added pumpkin pie spice as a replacement.   It was a delicious dessert!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup butter

1 egg

1 cup molasses

2 1/2 cups flour

1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon ginger

1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice or ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup hot water

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Grease and flour a 9 inch square baking pan

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar, add the egg.  Slowly pour in and incorporate molasses.

Mix together all the dry ingredients.

Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture.

Add the hot water and mix all together well.

Pour into prepared pan.  Bake one hour or until knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Allow to cool before serving.  Garnish with whip cream.
